About Wegovy®
Wegovy® (semaglutide injection 2.4 mg) is an FDA-approved prescription medication indicated for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related condition, when used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Wegovy® is manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist that works by mimicking a natural hormone to reduce appetite and slow gastric emptying. Wegovy® is not a compounded medication — it is an FDA-approved finished drug product.
How to take it
Administration & dosing
Wegovy® is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. It comes in a pre-filled, single-dose pen injector. Your licensed provider will determine the appropriate starting dose and escalation schedule based on your individual medical history. The injection is typically given in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Your provider will give you full instructions. Doses are escalated gradually over approximately 16 weeks to the maintenance dose. Store pen injectors in the refrigerator between 36°F and 46°F. Do not freeze.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, headache, fatigue, dizziness, and injection-site reactions. Serious risks include: thyroid C-cell tumors (do not use if you or a family member have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2), pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, increased heart rate, suicidal behavior and ideation, and acute kidney injury.
